Turpentine

Turpentine is a liquid mixture of terpenes and terpenoids produced from conifer resins.

Based on production method, turpentine is divided into:

  • gum turpentine, or "turpentine oil" (formed during rosin production by distillation);
  • wood turpentine (extracted with organic solvents from shredded stumps or stems);
  • hydrolytic (by-product of hydrolysis);
  • suhoperegonny or retort (extracted by a heat treatment of wood chips).
